Safety & limitations

Read this before you rely on us.

aid.mt is a preview and is not operating. Even when it is, it will have limits. This page explains them honestly.

aid.mt cannot send help today. In any emergency, call 112. Don’t wait for the app, a responder or a message from us.
When to call 112

Call 112 straight away if…

Call before you do anything else — before SOS, before texting family, before searching online.

  • Someone is unconscious, not breathing normally or choking
  • There is chest pain, signs of a stroke or a severe allergic reaction
  • There is heavy bleeding, a serious injury or a bad fall
  • There is fire, smoke, a crash, violence or a crime in progress
  • Someone may harm themselves or others
  • You’re not sure. Calling 112 is always the right choice.
Know who you’re reaching

Four different things — not one.

The app labels each of these clearly, so you always know which one you are using.

Use first

Official emergency call (112)

Run by Malta’s public emergency services: ambulance, police, fire. Free. Not run by aid.mt and not connected to it.

Not operating

Supplementary responder request

A request to verified volunteers and professionals nearby, in addition to 112. No guarantee anyone accepts or arrives.

Simulated in preview

Family notification

A message to the contacts you chose. They are not responders and may not see it straight away.

Not for emergencies

Non-emergency help

Questions to our team through the contact form. Not answered around the clock.

SOS in the app

What SOS does and doesn’t do.

SOS starts an alert. It is not a call to the emergency services.

It does

  • Show you a large Call 112 button first
  • Record the time, and your location if you allow it
  • Tell your trusted contacts (simulated in the preview)
  • Show its real status in words
  • Let you cancel at any time

It doesn’t

  • Call 112 for you
  • Send an ambulance, the police or the fire service
  • Diagnose, triage or give medical advice
  • Promise that anyone will come, or when
  • Show an arrival time that isn’t based on a real route
  • Reach any real responder during the preview
Limits of the service

What we can’t promise.

No guarantee

We don’t guarantee that a responder will be available, accept or arrive within any time. We will never show a guaranteed time.

Phones and networks fail

Alerts depend on your phone, battery, signal, settings and other networks. Messages can be delayed or lost. We never treat a sent message as a read one.

Location can be wrong

Phone location can be out by tens or hundreds of metres, especially indoors. Type the address, floor and access if you can.

No medical advice

aid.mt doesn’t diagnose, triage or judge how serious something is. Responders act only within their own training.

Hours and coverage not published

The service is not operating, so there are no hours or area yet. When a pilot starts, they will be on the coverage page and service status. Outside them, no responders are asked.

Plans don’t change this

A paid plan never buys priority, faster help or guaranteed availability. Call 112 is never behind a paywall.

False alarms

Mistakes happen. Here’s what to do.

An alert raised by accident is easy to stop.

  1. Cancel the alert

Use Cancel on the alert screen. Location sharing stops.

  2. Your contacts are told

They get a message that the alert was cancelled.

  3. Mark it as a false alarm

It helps us improve. Honest mistakes are never penalised.

Raising false alerts on purpose puts other people at risk and may lead to your account being closed. If you cancel but are still in danger, call 112.

When in doubt, call 112.

It is free, it doesn’t need our app and it is the fastest way to reach the emergency services.
